India natively known as Bharat lies wholly in the northern hemisphere. India measures 3,214 km. from north to south and 2,933 km. from east to west, covering an area of 32,87,263 sq. km. India is the seventh largest country in the world. To the north lies Nepal, Bhutan and China. Pakistan and Afghanistan are to the north west, to the east lies Bangladesh, Myanmar and China to the south. India has Indian Ocean and island country of Sri Lanka, the Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal lie to the south west and south east respectively. The Andaman and Nicobar islands also part of India, lie away to the south east of the mainland, across the Bay of Bengal.
